I’m first and foremost a Canal angler. For over a decade these seemingly monotone stretches draw me in, frustrate me, can get me completely lost and back to reality again.
The funny part is that I keep on coming back, trying to improve my own skill without havening to prove anything to anyone.
From the most difficult rigs to now as simple as I can get them. Buying plus using as much bait as possible and now using just enough. The finetuning and thus improving again makes it so interesting… I’ve tried it all and I love it!
Getting back to the bait subject is quite easy. Easy to say after a long trial and error period. It’s safe to say that I like to use quality boilies and just enough, maybe even less than that. The preferred strategy is to move a lot. Fish different sections, even if I only have time for a session of say max. 24 hours. I want to fish these spots correctly and offer something interesting for the carp. Attractive, rich and fresh! Especially after early spring I switch from mainly orange pop-ups and small pva sticks to a (sometimes single) boilie approach.
Don’t get me wrong, this type of angling stays challenging but my choice remains fixed, solid. Just a few Northern Krills make sure any doubts I have are no longer bait related nowadays! They have proven myself wrong multiple times, where all factors where in textbook style against me, confidence was low and still resulted in a bite or two!
